When you think of yoga, you probably picture someone on a mat on the floor. But if you limit your yoga to ground-level, traditional Yoga, you’re missing out on many benefits that are only possible with VaihAyasa Aerial Yoga.

If you’re looking for Aerial Yoga classes in the Marlton, NJ area, look no further than Kennedy Fitness: A Jefferson Health Affiliate.

What is Aerial Yoga?

If you’ve ever seen an aerial acrobat perform at a circus, then you already know what it looks like when someone hangs suspended. Aerial Yoga is a lot safer than the death-defying stunts of aerialists; our slings, capable of supporting up to 1,000 pounds, are made of soft fabric (the same kind used by the circus performers) and are suspended at waist height. By hanging suspended with your body weight distributed between the sling and the floor, you can reimagine traditional yoga positions and add non-traditional poses in ways that introduce even more health benefits.

Benefits of Aerial Yoga

Spinal Decompression and Alignment

Whether you spend most of your day sitting or standing, you create stress on your neck and spine as the vertebrae compress. Hanging upside-down reverses this process, decompressing the vertebrae and helping alleviate back pain and tightness. The sling is designed to partially or fully support your body. With the help of gravity, the fabric creates space within the body. Aerial Yoga also takes pressure off the hands, neck, and shoulders, as well as joints all over the body, increasing fluidity in your movement.

More Poses and Increased Flexibility

If you’ve ever attempted yoga on the floor, maybe you had to ask someone to do you a favor by applying pressure to your back or legs. That’s because a floor imposes limits on your stretching.

When you hang suspended during Aerial Yoga, gravity applies this pressure for you. This enables you to comfortably stretch farther than you’d be able to do on the floor.

One of the most advanced poses in regular Yoga is an inversion; it’s also one of the most dangerous. Similar to a headstand or handstand, beginners and even some experienced Yoga participants need the supervision and assistance of an experienced yogi to attain this posture safely and successfully. Aerial Yoga enables everyone, even beginners, to do inversions safely, adding to your strength and flexibility.

Aerial Yoga is for You

No matter your skill level, Aerial Yoga is a terrific option for physical wellness. Whether you’re a beginner who wants to get in shape or an experienced Yoga practitioner looking for a new twist on your routine, give Aerial Yoga a try. Besides the health benefits, it’s fun!
