The seasons are getting ready to change, and the time to build the perfect “beach body” has passed. But there are plenty of reasons to recommit yourself to better fitness during the fall.

How about fitting into some fresh cold-weather clothes, or rediscovering some of your favorite old clothes? You can forget about the bikini and strive for a new “blue jeans body,” a lighter, leaner physique that can slip into stylish slim-fit denim and turn heads at football games, bonfires and holiday parties.

To get there, you need to change up your exercise routine, and a great way to transform your body this fall is to sign up for our cross-training classes in South Jersey

What is Cross-Training?

Cross-training is a well-rounded fitness regimen that combines elements of cardiovascular, strength, agility and flexibility training in fast-paced workout sessions that constantly change from day to day.

Instead of simply running on a treadmill or climbing a stair machine for a given distance or amount of time, a cross-training session could involve:

  • Calisthenics (burpees, squats, lunges, etc.)
  • Plyometrics (box jumps, broad jumps, etc.)
  • Weight lifting (dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, barbells)
  • Jumping rope
  • Utilizing TRX bands
  • And more!

All of these movements, mixed together and done with intensity, add up to one heck of a fat-busting workout!

What Makes Cross-Training Effective?

This brief slideshow video illustrates a few of the many benefits of cross-training. Take a look, then keep reading as we explain further.

As the video suggests, cross-training works by eliminating two major roadblocks to fitness: physical injury and mental burnout. If you’re hurt, then you can’t work out, and if your workout experiences have been dull and boring, you probably lack the motivation to work out on a consistent basis.

Cross-training prevents injury by building core strength, which includes everything from abs to glutes to hips and thighs. Core strength improves balance and stabilizes the body. Additionally, by working all muscle groups, cross-training steers away from the repetitive movements that can wear down — and eventually break down — certain parts of the body.

Workouts should be fun, but doing the same thing day after day is sure to get old. Cross-training keeps you on your toes, never knowing what to expect from your workout — except a lot of sweat, and amazing progress!
