Are you ready to Relay For Life? As a sponsor of this year’s fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, Future Fitness is sponsoring an exciting array of events and activities, all leading up to the Relay For Life at Freedom Park in Medford, NJ, starting at noon on June 9.
Relay For Life helps communities across the globe celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. In addition to joining our Relay For Life team, we’re giving members the opportunity to participate in the following special events:
- Zumbathons – Fun, Latin-inspired dance workouts
- Member Appreciation Days
- Swim lesson specials
- Chiropractic specials
- Special guest privileges at events and activities
- Free merchandise from corporate sponsors, such as GNC and Monster Energy
Relay For Life was started in 1985 by Dr. Gordy Klatt – a colorectal surgeon in Tacoma, Washington – to raise funds for his local American Cancer Society office. Then called the City of Destiny Classic 24-Hour Run Against Cancer, the event gained momentum, and is now held in 5,200 locations throughout the United States and other sanctioned venues worldwide. At present, Relay For Life has raised more than $4.5 billion to save lives.
Dr. Klatt has remained involved with Relay For Life throughout the years, but his own battle against the disease began recently with a diagnosis of stomach cancer. In an email to the American Cancer Society, Dr. Klatt said he tentatively plans to attend the Tacoma rally on June 8.
As members and team members of Future Fitness, we’ve made a commitment to pursue a healthy lifestyle and help encourage others to do the same. There is no better way to promote health and longevity than to give our support to finding a cure for this disease that has touched everyone in some manner.
If you’re not able to participate in the relay itself, take advantage of one of our special promotions that benefit the cause while fine-tuning your workout program, or drop a donation into the Relay For Life coin cans at each Future Fitness location.
If you are able to join our team for the main Relay For Life event at Freedom Park, we’ll see you there! This year’s theme is Carnival of Hope. In the last 10 years, Relay For Life of Medford has raised almost $2 million. Let’s turn the “almost” into “more than” in 2012. No matter how you contribute, a cancer-free future can start with you!
