Many people think that sit-ups will take fat off the waist, or that exercising the legs in a spinning class will slim the legs.

FAT SPOT REDUCTION DOES NOT EXIST! Muscle is firmed by working that exact muscle, FAT behaves quite differently. FAT is an energy reserve or a calorie bank. Fat is stored energy, where it is stored is determined by your genetic blueprint.

You cannot alter that proportion. As you gain and lose fat, it increases and reduces by the same genetically determined proportion every time.

This is true no matter how much you gain or lose weight. So, for example, if you lose 100 calories from running, you will lose exactly the same amount of fat off your waist as if you burned 100 calories from bench presses, sit-ups, swimming, a spinning class or from sleeping.

(Yes, you burn calories while you sleep!)
