If you’re planning to take a vacation this summer, you’ll have enough to worry about trying to practice proper hygiene and keep the family socially distanced while away from home. Staying healthy will take precedence over staying in shape, and that’s as it should be.
However, you can still maintain an effective exercise regimen while taking a break from the stress of “real life.” It just takes a little bit of planning and some creativity — and if there’s one thing the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us, it’s how to get creative with our workouts.
Since concerns about the virus forced the closure of our fitness centers in South Jersey, we’ve been offering an immensely popular series of free online workout programs. You can access our classes anytime, anywhere, on Facebook, or YouTube. So as long as you have a mobile device and a WiFi connection on your vacation, you can get in a great workout with an expert instructor.
If you like doing your own thing, and you have access to some easy-to-transport fitness accessories — like a jump rope, yoga mat, or resistance bands — throw those in your suitcase so you’ll have them handy. When scheduling vacation activities, look for options that will keep you moving.

We can’t stress the importance of hydration enough, especially if you’re planning to be out and about in the summer heat, and if you plan to consume a lot of alcohol. We want nothing more than for you to enjoy yourself on vacation — and trust us, you’ll enjoy yourself much more when your body has the fluids it needs to regulate your temperature and run all of your essential systems. That includes the immune system!
If you’ve constantly got a dehydration headache and feel lethargic and run down, you won’t be motivated to exercise, either!
Wellness is all about balance, so taking the time to relax and rejuvenate is just as important as hitting it hard in the gym. You can achieve balance while on vacation, allowing your body to de-stress without taking a step back in your fitness journey.
