Kennedy Fitness: A Jefferson Health Affiliate, offers swim classes in Mount Laurel and its other locations. These classes are available in all sizes (private, semi-private, and group sessions), for groups of all ages and skill levels.

Classes for children are divided by age group and skill level. Your children can learn to swim at virtually any age, even as young as six months old. Before your children have learned to walk, they can know the basics of how to swim. Here are some benefits of swimming lessons for children: 

Safety 

Sadly, when children don’t know how to swim, they’re in danger of one of the leading causes of death for their age group. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention[efn_note]https://www.cdc.gov/homeandrecreationalsafety/water-safety/waterinjuries-factsheet.html.[/efn_note].

  • “Children ages 1 to 4 have the highest drowning rates. In 2014, among children 1 to 4 years old who died from an unintentional injury, one-third died from drowning.”
  • “Among children ages 1 to 4, most drownings occur in home swimming pools.”
  • “Drowning is responsible for more deaths among children 1-4 than any other cause except congenital anomalies (birth defects).”
  • “Fatal drowning remains the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death behind motor vehicle crashes.”

Many of these deaths could have been prevented if the children had known the basics of how to swim. You can make your child less vulnerable to a tragedy with our swimming lessons, especially the Infant Self-Rescue® (ISR) classes available at some locations. Here, children can learn how to avoid drowning, with simple but essential skills like holding their breath under water and staying afloat on their backs.

Fun 

Group lessons give kids a chance to socialize and make friends outside of a school setting. And since pool parties are one of the most common social occasions for children, your son or daughter will be ready to fit in with the other kids the next time they’re invited to a friend’s house to swim.
