Renee’s Story in her own words: My before picture (shown below) was taken on Dec.24th 2010. I was five foot two and 230lbs. I traveled extensively for my high pressure, high stress job. My weight was definitely affecting my health. I had no energy, I was short of breath going up stairs not to mention my knees and all of my joints aching. I was on medication for high blood pressure and high cholesterol and triglycerides. On December 28th, 2010 I received a diagnosis of Type II diabetes. The diagnosis was my wake up call. Working in hospice I was well aware of how many people die daily from the complications of uncontrolled diabetes: heart disease, kidney disease and stroke! I knew I had to do something.
The first thing I tackled was my diet. I stopped eating refined carbohydrates, anything white. Then I joined Future Fitness. I fell in love with Zumba classes and started attending regularly. The weight started coming off. As part of our membership we get to meet with a trainer. I lucked out and was assigned to Rob Mehmet. He talked to me about the benefits of training but I was resistant. Lift weights? Me? No way. I did take advantage of the free session though and when I saw how horribly out of shape I was (I could barely get up off the mat at the end) I decided to sign up for a 10 pack of 30 minute sessions. It was the best decision I have ever made. I have been training twice a week with Rob ever since and I credit him solely and his knowledge base with giving me the body I have today. He’s the best hands down at what he does and I’m the proof.
The changes in my body size and shape are very visible. I have lost over 100lbs and my weight is holding between 126 and 129lbs. MY BMI is 22.8% and my body fat percentage is 19.5% which puts me in the excellent range, the range recommended for athletes. As far as going up steps goes I can now carry two cases of water at a time up the steps without breaking a sweat. My blood pressure is normal and I am off of my high blood pressure medication, my cholesterol and triglycerides are also normal. The most important thing is that I am no longer on my diabetes medication and my blood glucose levels and A1C are normal. I found out after the fact that lifting weights is the single best thing you can do to lower your blood sugar readings. It took a year and a half of training to bring my blood sugar readings into the normal range without medication. The best part is my doctor told me I have added at least ten years to my life.
I can’t say enough about Rob and the training staff at Future Fitness. They are true professionals who if you let them, can change your life and give you back your health. The investment I made in training was the best investment I ever made. The results I got were far beyond what I ever expected!
